The Pontifica Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) hosts the 50th Celebration Anniversary of the Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institutes (Unica), composed of 29 institutions of higher education in the region.
Within the framework of the event, the Annual General Assembly was held for the election of its new managers, in which PUCMM was elected to the Vice Presidency of Communications and Public Relations, and the new corporate image of the entity was presented.
With the launch of its new corporate image, the organization is officially known as Universities Caribbean (Caribbean Universities), reaffirmed the commitment to promote sustainable partnerships to increase competitiveness, create a global platform for higher education in the region and facilitate the mobility of Students and researchers.
The new president of Caribbean Universities is Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies in Jamaica; Disclosure and Associations will be assumed by Dr. Francis de Lanoy, rector of the University of Curaçao, while Professor Eustase Janky, president of the University of Antilles, was elected for the Vice Presidency of Research and Projects.
At the event, economist Miguel Ceara Hatton, a specialist in development and international economy issues, as well as a researcher at the Center for Economic and Social Studies Father José Luis Alemán de la Madre y Maestra, gave the lecture “The current Caribbean: an intellectual construction “
